About WipBox
WipBox was created in December 2006 as a pet project Jason Wiener's. It was his first go at a LAMP (Linux Apache MySQL PHP) mashup. He created WipBox to sell things more quickly and easily on eBay and Craigslist. By taking the time to do additional research and by going the extra step when he wrote his listings, he found he would get more views and bids and higher prices than without. Launched as an 'VERY-alpha' version on January 17, 2007, WipBox received a great deal of attention exceeding 3,000 registered users, ~100,000 page views and ~40,000 unique visitors in its first month.

In February, WipBox was incorporated and took a small angel investment to begin on what has become this BETA version. On April 17, 2007, the product's 3 month-iversary, WipBox signed up it's 6,000th user AND the first BETA version of the service.

With this version of WipBox, several very cool features have been added to the core. More are planned to follow in the coming months.

Realize as you're using WipBox, that it's in a continual state of improvement. If you find something that could be done better, differently, or even bugs...let us know.

WipBox currently focuses on only the US eBay and Craigslist sites.

Technology
WipBox is built on LAMP (Linux Apache MySQL PHP) using AJAX as a communication/application layer as needed and appropriate.
eBay Research Data
WipBox utilizes eBay Market Data through their exclusive provider DataUnison. Using the keywords identified from users either during the addition of an item or when they enter them for research, WipBox makes ad hoc calls to DataUnison which returns market research data to be processed. Data is then returned the WipBox users for their listing. DataUnison is the market research data provider behind WipBox's eBay price, quantity and category research.
Image Hosting + Storage
WipBox provides low-cost, high-quality and constant-reliability image hosting via Amazon.com's Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3). By utilizing Amazon S3, WipBox is able to offer regular image hosting prices, within user's listings, for as low as 6 cents per image. This enables users to not be required to signup for multi-month commitments or higher priced services while still having the ability to display high-quality images with their items.
eBay Item Posting
WipBox is an eBay Compatible Application. By leveraging the eBay Developer API, WipBox is able to offer users the ability to immediately post their items to eBay (as long as they have a valid, active and in good-standing seller account). This makes the eBay selling experience end-to-end for our users. WipBox has, however, made simplifications to the posting process by making decisions on which types of auctions to offer, based on our own historical performance analysis. Our offering is to simplify the selling experience for our users who simply want to sell the best way possible.
Photo Editing
To enable users to quickly and easily add their photos to listings, WipBox offers SnipShot photo editor within our Photo Management features. The experience is seamless between WipBox and SnipShot offering users the ability to color-correct, white-balance, rotate, crop, and adjust their photos as they see fit before posting their item for sale.
Manufacturer information and Expert Reviews
WipBox leverages Amazon.com's E-Commerce Services (ECS) to power our Specs + Reviews section. Using the keywords identified from users either during the addition of an item or when they enter them for research, WipBox makes ad hoc calls to Amazon's ECS to return content that's relevant to a user's item and potentially helpful for their listing. A user can add as many reviews and product info pages to a listing as they desire or feel is appropriate.
